Your Natural Hair & Dating A Black Man
I have been natural since I was 14, but I have been wearing my own hair out for the last 3 years. The reason why I chose not to wear out my natural hair was because I felt unsecure, unattractive, and defintely not accepted. All of the women around me had long wind blowing straight or curly weaves. At the time my afro was stiff...and wouldn't budge if a hurricane wind blew. I received several dates with my weave and was often afraid to reveal that my "real hair" was thick, kinky, and healthy. when I decided to really become a natural hair stylist and promote natural hair my client asked me, "Why don't you wear your hair all the time?". I realized that I was encouraging all of these women to do a "big chop" and to wear their hair, but I wasn't listening or even considering my own advice. Such a hypocrite I was, but I was hyporcitical based on my insecurities. So, I decided to wear my hair....and I've been wearing it ever since. When I do get a protective style I often choose a style that resembles my own hair texture. When I started wearing my hair I had a few men asked me was I locking it or was I becoming afrocentric. I felt as if they viewed me differently because I was choosing to wear my hair the way the Creator intended me to. I found many guys liking that I opted to be myself instead of another "Nikki Minaj" wannabee. So, the basics of this blog is not force you to wear your hair, but when you do choose to wear your own beautiful coils, curls, and even kinks to know it is not the hair that makes you beautiful or confident. It is what is already within you that provides that.

YOUR HAIR IS LIKE GRASS.....IT WILL GROW
Sisters,
Our hair can and will grow if we let it. We all know, well most of us should know that chemicals on our hair is not healthy for our hair or our scalps. Most of us started getting perms at a young age, so now that you are natural you might feel like your hair is not growing fast enough or you feel like it stop growing once it reached a certain length. Well I say lets go to the "drawing" board together and find the solution. Some natural sisters still wear wigs or weaves while they are "natural". The wigs and weaves are ok SOMETIMES for protective styles. We must understand that just like grass....if we cover our hair all the time how can we expect it to grow? So, I am going to give you a example; Think about the O.C.D. neighbor that cuts his/her grass, waters it, and even gives it miracle grow every week. What does that grass look like?? But if they cover the grass and drive a car or put a trash can on it, so that it doesn't receive water or sun what happens then? Well we know that it turns brown....it will still grow, but it wont look like it has been taking care of like with the O.C.D. neighbor. When you take out your sew-in, extensions, and wig caps you will see growth, but you also notice a lot of shedding and maybe even thinning or brittle hair this is because your hair or scalp wasn't able to get the appropriate amount of oxygen which decreased its blood circulation that stimulates growth. Basically, what I am saying is to remember that when you decided to go natural you decided for a reason. The reason maybe different for others than it is for me, but you know your reason. My original reason was because I wanted to embrace what GOD (CREATOR) gave me as well as to stop burning my SCALP. So, know that you can grow your hair, but you have to take care of it!!
